UoG Crisis enters fifth week

They say pictures tell a thousand stories: These contrasting pictures are of University of Goroka; the K20-million six-floor dormitory started in 2008, plan was for it to be completed in the 2010 academic year for over 300 students to live in. Two dorms were demolished end of 2009 and over 300 full-fee paid students are now living in spaces within the campus vicinity.
In the fifth week of boycott, the students split into various groups to pursue their demands. SRC Leaders flew to Port Moresby, general body formed three groups and pushed wheel-barrows around Goroka to collect donations to stay on course for their cause. Early in week one, hundreds of them tried to get into the small National court room to 'show their solidarity' for their three SRC Leaders taken to task by the Interim Management for leading the boycott.
The UoG crisis is over political interference into University governance and in the interim alleged mal-administration and poor academic management.
So far events have occurred that puts UoG students in the upper hand of re-writing the history books, especially causing change from the bottom without violence...and sticking together for each other with a single purpose.

Yonki Highlands Sea teeming with Fish

Yonki Highlands Sea teeming with Fish
What a catch!...yes it came from Yonki Sea. There are cat-fish caught that have been measured to nearly a meter long.

The Yonki Sea

The Yonki Sea
A view from one of the shores of the huge man-made lake that holds water to power the hydro power turbines for electricity for most of the Highlands, Morobe and Madang. Kayaking, sailing, fishing and site-seeing and trekking is not only available in and around the 'Highlands Sea' but the Arona Valley itself offers other breath-taking views. Goroka show in September provides opportunity for the casual and serious visitor to also remember Kominave Asaro-mudmen village, the Kemase historical site and skull caves in Lufa and the Gahavisuka wild life sanctuary on the tops of Goroka.
